5 Minute Friday- I feel most loved when...

I don't normally post twice in one day, but I found Five Minute Friday over at the Gypsy Mama, thanks to this new blogger friend. I feel most loved when...

Earlier this week, I was going about my normal business when Shad stopped me. He looked me straight in the eyes and told me, "I have been thinking about you today at work, and how lucky I am." He then went on to say several things that he loved about me. The things he loved about me focused on who I was as a person. Who I am at my heart, and not just the things that I do for him. I know he loves my cooking, and I know he loves that I take care of the boys, but I feel most loved when he reminds me that he loves me for who I am not just what I do.

Give me Five Friday- {Squirrels!}

In case you don't know, I love my husband. He handsome, quirky, and an all around amazing guy. (You should read the comment he wrote and surprised me with on the (in)courage post yesterday.) One of Shad's quirks is he does have some...(how do I say this)...attention issues.

Have you ever seen the movie Up? Do you know how the dogs would be talking and then suddenly say, "Squirrel!" The first time Shad saw this he laughed his head off and said, "That's me!!!" So today's five is in honor of Shad's "squirrels," the things that always catch his attention.

{five of Shad's...."Squirrels!" moments}

1. "Brandon!"- Brandon and Collin always have a way of getting him off course. Sometimes it's because they do something cute, and sometimes it's when they do something bad. To be honest, who can resist their cute faces? They are a "Squirrel!" for me too.

2. "I love this song"- Now, I do this one too. If he says this all conversation stops so we can listen to the song.

3. "Do you think this is worth something?"- Shad often says this in thrift stores. I know if I hear this, Shad will be intently Googling when we get home.

4. "Did you see that?"- We can be driving down the road, rushing to get to where we need to, but if he "sees" something on the road no matter what we will have to stop and see what it is. I could fuss and ask him not to turn around and get it, but I know he won't be able to think about anything else. Besides, many times what he sees is something really cool!

5. "Does this looked cooked to you." -If Shad says this statement, I know where his attention will be for the next three hours. I've blogged about that phenomenon before here.

Blessing #37 - My Makeshift Altar

Growing up as a preacher’s kid, I was very familiar with the altar in our church. The altar is a place of surrender and a place of reconciling. I have seen lives, including my own, changed at the altar. Sometimes though, an altar may not be in a church. Sometimes, an altar may just be the side of a busy road.

Blessing #36 - Signs of Spring

Fall used to be my favorite season, but, since moving to MD, spring is definitely my favorite season. The winters are long and hard, so spring is such a welcome friend.

Spring is not in full force here yet, but within the past week, I have seen several signs of spring. With each one I see, I squeal with delight and yell, "Spring is coming."

1. Peeps- Sugar dipped in sugar! I have had a life long love of this candy. I know they are around almost year round now with every holiday, but nothing tastes better than a chicken peep. I know it's the same marshmallow, but the chicken shape just tastes better. I love looking at all the colors, but the classic yellow is definitely my favorite.

2. Forsythia (aka Yellow Bells)- I LoOoOoOve this flower...shrub. When these are in bloom, it looks like God took a highlighter to the woods.

Wednesday, March 2- Does anyone else feel like their heart is going to burst out of their chest when they see this picture, and does anyone else feel the need to wail things like, "Never grow up!!!" Oh. Just me. Ok.

Friday, March 4- B told me that he was going to teach Collin about big machines. It actually looks like Collin is interested.

Friday, March 4- Shad participated in his school's alumni game. I wasn't able to get a good action shot of him playing, but I like this picture of him taking a break. He had so much fun.

Saturday, March 5- What a smile!!! He turned four month old this week.


Sunday, March 6- B used his fire trucks as roller skates. He was actually really good at it, but I just happened to get a picture of him falling.

Saturdate with Southern Plate- {Fried Potatoes}

Surprise! I did not make a dessert this week! I've been stuck in dessert mode for several weeks, but this week I made fried potatoes (click here for the recipe).

This is a great easy side. I made them one night when we were having leftovers. The potatoes made the leftovers seem new.
